“I don’t know what he needs to do” – boss gives his view on penalty decisions

Ethan Laird is on loan from Manchester United.ย  A side who it has often been said get more than their fair share of penalty decisions going their way particularly at Old Trafford where sometimes it is felt that the crowd can sway decisions in favour of the home side.

So it must be some higher level of frustration on that basis when you are being fouled week in week out and yet not getting the decisions coming in your favour.ย  Think back on recent games – Bournemouth, Coventry and Peterborough and you will see a decent shout for a penalty on Laird.ย  ย On Saturday against Blackpool there were two clear decisions that should have gone the way of the wing back but both were waved away by Keith Stroud to the sheer amazement of the Swansea.com Stadium crowd.

And it was a clear element of frustration for Russell Martin when he faced the press after the game and he announced that the Swans were sending off a compilation of penalties that never were to those that matter by way of protestation.

“I don’t know what Ethan needs to do to get a penalty. Same with Bournemouth,” said Martin.

“We’ve got a list and compilation of videos of where we should have had penalties and we’ll send it off after today.

“It can’t just keep happening really.”

Martin also confirmed that he had spoken to referee Stroud after the game to “discuss” the penalties that were not given and he told the press that Stroud “did not think there’s any contact for the first one. And the second one there’s not enough contact.

“I know James Husband very well. He’s done brilliantly for them. His body language tells me everything for the second one. He’s very much waiting for the whistle to be blown because he knows he’s kicked him.”

Stroud’s decisions was the largest talking point of a disappointing afternoon for the Swans-Jobi McAnuff discussing the penalty incidents on Quest said he believed just one of the three biggest claims would have been a penalty (the one referenced by Martin above)
