The chase for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee is a real one with more than a dozen clubs reported as expressing an interest in signing him should he be available for loan.

The Swans reputation for developing players will have us towards the top end of that list of potential suitors but the comments of the Premier League Champions manager Pep Guardiola suggest that a loan move in the New Year is unlikely.

McAtee has recently featured in matchday squads and made his Premier League debut in the 3-0 win over Everton when he came off the bench.   This has led City to believe that his future may be best developed by staying at the Ethiad where he can learn from the more established stars within the squad.

“We have exceptional players in the academy,” said Guardiola.

“I am not shy to use them. If they are good, they are going to get an opportunity.”
