Brighton midfielder heading for Swansea move?

It wouldn’t be a Sunday in December if there wasn’t a new transfer link to talk about and today it is Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard who is reportedly a potential target for both the Swans and Sunderland in the January window.

Leonard was a potential target for the Swans back in the summer so this could be one of those ones that is just a moment where clubs who formerly had an interest are linked but with the likelihood that James McAtee will remain at Man City in January the Swans are on a hunt for a new midfielder to increase the options in midfield.

The Scotland under-21 international signed a new deal earlier this season until the summer of 2023 with the Seagulls, and made his debut for Graham Potter’s men earlier this year, putting in impressive displays in the Carabao Cup against both Cardiff City and us.

Former Under 18s boss at the Amex, Mark Beard, is encouraging the player though to head out on loan for his own development.

“I think a January loan move would be a great option for him,” he toldย Sussex Live.

“Another six months down the line may be six months wasted. He can stay in the under-23s but he has been there for around two years.

“I think he could do with stepping up. He would be ready for it. They [Brighton] could give him game time in the FA Cup but they have got to have a plan for him.

“They could go out in the third round and then that plan of FA Cup minutes could end quickly and he is back with the U23s again. If you are looking at the bigger picture, a loan move would be great.”
