Martin – guidelines don’t make a lot of sense to me

Russell Martin says that the restrictions imposed on sporting grounds in Wales this week do not make alot of sense to him as he talked yesterday about the lack of logic that sees Swans fans able to travel to Millwall on Sunday but unable to attend their local ground just three days later.

Sports grounds in Wales will be forced to shut from Boxing Day meaning that all three league clubs are faced with no crowds over the busy festive periods as a result of different guidelines this side of the border.

Travelling supporters have been asked by the Welsh government to weigh up all options when making the decision when to travel but ultimately are being allowed to go to games more than 200 miles away despite not being able to attend games at home.

And Swans boss Russell Martin says that does not make much sense to him as he referenced in his press conference yesterday afternoon

โ€œWe canโ€™t have fans, but they can travel to the away game on Boxing Day. We are frustrated and the people who will miss out, we are really sad for them, but we will have to do our best,” he said.

โ€œI am sad about it and the supporters. To be able to go to London – where I would imagine there are a lot more cases than we have here โ€“ with fans, but not have them at our own ground does not make a lot of sense to me.

โ€œBut we will get on with it and we look forward to having our supporters back when that is allowed. We have no choice, we have to comply.

โ€œWe are not feeling sorry for ourselves, we will get on with it and get ready for the game.

โ€œIt will be difficult for a lot of clubs but there are a lot of industries being effected and it is a really tough time. We hope itโ€™s a short period and we can get back to some form of normality.โ€

The Swans boss revealed that the club have been told it is three games – league clashes with Luton and Fulham and the FA Cup tie with Southampton that are impacted but are unsure as to what happens beyond that most of which will depend on the position regards the pandemic at that stage.”
