Two transfer enquiries by the Swans – one rumoured to be to Chelsea – have been rejected this week as the impact of the spread of Covid cases within football starts to be seen with clubs now seemingly wanting to hold onto players they may normally loan out.
With just days now until the opening of the winter transfer window, the Swans are busy making various enquiries for players with a mix of permanent transfers and loan deals expected – as normal – within the window.
However, this time around the club are facing a challenge, moreso on loan deals, as clubs are keen to keep hold of players with extra pressure on their squads due to the impact of the Covid pandemic that has hit particularly hard again in the past few weeks.
It is of course a changing landscape all the time for the pandemic and as the month evolves then we will see changes in the way clubs approach it and whilst the door is closed in some places this week it could well reopen before the month is out if the number of cases within clubs starts to reduce.
This week alone has seen the Swans making tentative enquiries for players but they have been told on two occasions that the enquiry has fallen on deaf ears with the club not wanting to consider the loan moves in question.ย ย Sources close to the Swans have suggested that one of the clubs is Chelsea that has taken that stance with the other said to be a Premier League club but currently an unnamed one.
Chelsea have traditionally in recent years been a club with plenty of players out on loan all over Europe and it is no surprise to learn that the Swans are making enquiries to them over the availability of their developing talent.ย ย With Russell Martin on the hunt for additions to his squad all over the park speculation on the latest target is not for now but whoever it was we have been told at the moment to look elsewhere.
The Swans have also been linked heavily this window with moves for players from Manchester City, Brighton, Leeds and Arsenal on loan but none of those are believed to be in the rejections received this week.
If that is proven to be correct then it also shows that we are casting our net wider ahead of the window and that can only be a good thing – eggs and baskets and all that.
