Martin – We hope Paterson is back next week

Russell Martin is hoping that Jamie Paterson will be back in the first team picture next week when the transfer window shuts, although admits there is no immediate new on the player.

The situation with the midfielder is still up in the air after the standoff that took place between him and the club after his one year contract extension was activated early.

That has made Paterson unavailable by his own choice to play the last two games, and he is also absent again tonight for the match against QPR.

But boss Martin told Sky Sports in the live coverage of tonight’s match that he hopes Paterson will be back available next week – alluding to the closure of the transfer window which shuts in Monday.

He also said that the mood towards the player from the squad and staff was positive as always.

It’s well publicised that the club would be open to offers for the former Bristol City man, although Martin’s comments tonight may just open the door slightly more for a return in the near future.
