Swans to appeal Manning’s Fulham red

Swansea City will be appealing the red card shown to Ryan Manning in last night’s 5-1 home defeat to Fulham – a card that will see him sit out the next four games as a result of the suspension.

Both managers were in agreement after the game that they did not think it was a red card for the Swansea defender who mis-timed his challenge on Wales midfielder Harry Wilson and was immediately shown the red card with – as Russell Martin pointed out – little thought from the referee.

โ€œWe will appeal, he will get four games anyway because he has been sent off before, so we might as well,โ€ said Martin after the game.

โ€œAfter watching it back numerous times, in my opinion it was a poor decision.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t believe how quickly he got the red card out and I think everyone was really surprised.โ€

Fulham head coach Marco Silva said: “If you ask me if I thought it was a red card at the time, I have to say no.

“After seeing Harry Wilson’s leg, I started to think in a different way. If you saw the leg of Harry Wilson, maybe you would think in a different way also.

“I didn’t see the broadcast image. In the first moment, I thought it would be yellow but when I saw Harry’s leg I started to think in a different way.

“Maybe it’s not a red card but 15 minutes earlier it’s a clear penalty. He made a mistake there as well. It’s part of the game.”
