Rest in peace Lenny and thank you for everything

It was with complete sadness that we all learned this afternoon of the passing of Lenny Johnrose, a deeply brave man and of course the man who scored the ‘other’ goal that secured football league status for the Swans back in 2003.

Lenny passed this morning at the age of just 52 after a a battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

He was diagnosed with the disease in March 2017 and set up the Len Johnrose Foundation to raise awareness of the condition, which has no cure, and a charity game including a number of his former Swansea team-mates was held in 2019.

The Swans immediately announce a minutes applause for Lenny ahead of tomorrow’s league game with Millwall.

The Swans league status was in doubt right up to the minute that Lenny put us 3-2 up in that game against Hull and for that we will never forget what he achieved on the pitch for us in a career that also saw him represent Blackburn, Preston, Hartlepool,Bury and Burnley in a career that saw him make more than 500 senior appearances.

It was testament to the man himself that he set up such a wonderful foundation following his diagnosis and despite the terminal nature of the disease he always displayed the best side of his character and for that alone he will never be forgotten.

The Jack Army will never forget you Lenny and our thoughts are with all your friends and family at this sad time.

Rest in peace.ย  ย Legend.

Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
