Are the Swans back in for Rotherham United star?

It was a link that was strong back in the summer and the rumours are already underway that the Swans are potentially weighing up a move for Rotherham’s shining star Chiedozie Ogbene.

The player has scored six Championship goals this season, including one against the Swans on the opening day, and that has led to the links that were strong in previous windows not going away as he is believed to be a player that very much fits the mould that Russell Martin is looking for.

Ogbene can play in a variety of positions including the much craved wing back position that we so desperately need to fill and with him out of contract in the summer then Rotherham could be persuaded to do business in January should we decide that we are ready to make a move.

Ogbene has been linked with a potential move to Derby County as well where former Millers boss Paul Warne is in charge but his words in the summer were clear in that he wanted to play at the highest level possible and with Derby currently in League One the move does not fit that ambition at this point in time.

โ€œAt this stage of my career, itโ€™s really important to be playing games and at the highest level I can get to,” said Ogbene back in the summer when linked with a move to the Swans.

โ€œEvery player wants to be at a stable and established club โ€“ especially a big one like Swansea City.”

Rotherham are suggested to be ready to receive bids from other clubs for the player especially with him out of contract in the summer but they have not given up all hope of getting him to sign a new deal although that seems the least likely of all the available options.

As well as the Swans, Ogbene has his fans elsewhere as well with former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann saying last month โ€œChiedozie Ogbene has the ability to secure a Premier League move in the future. Heโ€™s already scored four goals this season and heโ€™s a very powerful player and could be an asset for many teams.

โ€œHeโ€™s been a standout player for the last year or so now and I donโ€™t see any reason why, if he finishes the season well with Rotherham, he canโ€™t make the move to the Premier League one day.โ€

It’s very early days in the stakes at the moment but it does feel that this is a link that has genuine substance to it but, as ever, only time will tell.
