The Michael Obafemi saga looks to be coming to an end with Talksport reporting that he is undergoing a medical at Championship leaders Burnley.
The deal is thought to be a loan with obligation to buy in the summer ending the long saga around the Irish international’s future in South Wales.
The sale will represent a profit for the club after paying just over ยฃ1m for his services to Southampton in the summer of 2021 although the Saints will be due some of that fee as part of a sell on clause.
Obafemi hasn’t played for the club since the World Cup break amid more tension between himself and the manager/club so it always seemed that a parting of the ways was best for all parties.
It’s expected he will sign for Vincent Kompany’s Burnley in the coming hours and could feature for the club this weekend as Swansea look to press on with their own January targets.
It’s a sad end to a player who showed so much promise in the second half of last season and one that Burnley pursued for a higher fee in the summer of 2022.
Will it free up the pursestrings in SA1 is the question on everyone’s lips?
