So, after months of planning and preparation which we were told started the day after the last window shut we are here at the last day of the January transfer window with no additions yet to the Swans squad.
It is widely believed that this will change before the window closes this evening with the Swans certainly looking at two loan signings (reported here) both assumed to be from Premier League clubs.
We know that a right back, a goalkeeper and even a striker are at the top end of the shopping list with the name of Chiedozie Ogbene still not completely disappearing off the radar despite a growing belief that Rotherham are happy to hold onto the player and let him leave on a free transfer in the summer.
That belief is fuelled by a thought that a deadline day sake of Ogbene would leave little room for manoeuvre for the Millers to find a replacement and the hierarchy at the club are therefore believed to be comfortable to hold onto the player that they see as key to helping them in their fight to stay in League One.
We know there was Swans interest in Cody Drameh and Joe Gelhardt but the two players have gone elsewhere but there have also been other loan enquiries made by the club and it is anticipated that at least two of these will come off before the day ends.
Ashley Barnes and Harry Cornick are also names linked with the Swans this window so the final day will be interesting to see if there is any further movement on either on those fronts. Maybe more so Cornick as we are reported to have had a bid turned down for him,
The last day of the January window always tends to be a frantic one based on it being the last chance for teams to have any impact on their squad this season and loan deals are the most commonplace of deals especially for those who may have spent the largest part of their budgets in the summer window.
There are no real exits expected today – interest in Jamie Paterson appears to be relatively quiet but that could change at the last minute whilst the links between Morgan Whittaker and Rangers appear to be over after it was stated (by Rangers) that he would stay at Swansea.
So if I was to have a bet about the shape of the day it would reference a couple of loan signings coming in and that is about it. As much as the Swans would love to sign Ogbene that one (as a gut feel) feels further away than closer to completion so I think its loan signings at the most.
Unless of course we have something up our sleeves!
Same old January window just a different year so much for the planning and we don’t need to sell to get players in it’s getting depressing everyone can see we need a few bodies ah well. STID
Always the same with Russell Martin the players he wants in he doesn’t do anything he just waits till last minute when they going to different clubs.. As for Ashley Barnes he is to old.

Rotherham have a right to stay in the championship not league one! Come on Michael, proof read the article.

Unfortunately none of those strikers is available and anyway the owners would never come up with the money . Like the sound of Hennessey.Sadly I agree with the articl above – a couple of loan signings is all we’ll manage
Why have a go at Martin, FGS – he’s a manager of a team only, he can highlight a player he thinks would fit the mould based on stats, the finance to bring them to the club are controlled from Stateside and if it means bringing in any player that would result in their financial contribution increasing, they will hide! It is clear we have bad eggs within the team, telling everyone in the press about them, does little to sell them on – we have said they are distruptive, so why would any club pay anywhere near top dollar when we are screaming loud they are trouble. Burnley see this and a loan is all they were willing to risk, Patto is likely to be the same a loan so we save some of his salary. Whittaker, OMG give the lad a break!!! – we put him out on loan, he does well to try to keep the door open to play for us and then we grag him back to a trasfer circus, leaving him look like the only clown – shame on you Swans! – keep the lad, give him the chance. What i cannot understand is that he is good enough for Rangers but not us, when our striker options are at bare bones and as for Barnes, great experience but at 33, he will not have the legs to keep up with this style of play. The crunch is, the board wanted at least three of the rotten eggs off our books fully to reinvest in new players, it is unlikely to happen. Where I am more than happy about ensuring our Club does not overstretch it’s financial input (as Cardiff has), as a business consortium, surely they invested in Swansea to see growth, obviously this is not the case – so guys, please sell on the Club to someone who see’s value in Swansea and it’s potential – do the right thing – invest elsewhere and give us a fighting chance for the future!
