With Steven Benda set for a ยฃ1m departure to Fulham ahead of the transfer window the rumours were quick and clean with suggestions that Nathan Broome was about to come in as his replacement.

Broome had his contract at AFC Wimbledon cancelled by “mutual consent” just last week and it was suggested that he was at the Swansea.com Stadium last night ahead of a move.

Broome signed for AFC Wimbledon from Stoke City in January 2022 having been with the Potters for just shy of four years, finding minutes with their U18s and U21s before heading to Plough Lane. With the Dons, he played 13 times across all competitions but he mainly served as no.2 last season.

Explaining the decision, manager Johnnie Jackson said he was finding it difficult being far from home and after Broome raised concerns, a mutual exit seemed best for all.

โ€œFirst and foremost, we wish Nathan all the best for the rest of his career. He was finding it difficult being away from home and he wanted a new challenge. Obviously, there was a lot of competition in his position, so when he came to me and said he was struggling we all felt that the best thing to do was to help him.

“The resolution was that he would leave and move on, so he goes with our best wishes and we hope he has a very successful career.โ€

Broome is expected to arrive in Swansea very much as third choice behind Carl Rushworth and Andy Fisher but it is hoped that he could provide a viable long term alternative.
