Huddersfield v Swansea City – Can the Swans win again on the road?

The Swans will be guaranteed a tough test this afternoon as they head to Huddersfield with the Terriers looking to move themselves out of the division’s bottom three as we reach the last three games of the season.

Back to back home wins for the Swans over Stoke and Rotherham have secured the Swans Championship status but for the home side today it looks set to go down to the wire as they go into the match in 22nd place but knowing that a win is almost certain to take them out of those positions ahead of the last couple of weeks of the season.

For the Swans, Luke Williams has talked about a strong finish to the season and for that to happen we will again need to see a step up in performance from the one we saw last weekend against Rotherham but they have proved in some recent games that we are capable of doing just that.ย  ย The challenge for the Swans manager is to get that tune out of his team every week particularly now the status for next season is secure and he will certainly want to avoid an “on the beach” performance and secure another three points for his tenure.

We could see some changes in the team today with some of the academy players lining up for a start which could make for interesting viewing but we should certainly not expect anything other than Huddersfield pushing us all the way today and that will be a great chance for Williams, no matter who he selects, to see what certain players are made of.

The game should also prove to be one of the last chances for the likes of Liam Walsh and Jamal Lowe to prove themselves worthy of a new Swans deal although, as referenced before, every player should see this as playing for their places next season where we are expecting to see a very different looking Swansea City on the personnel front.

Looking Ahead: Luke Williams

โ€œWe have to be more clinical,โ€ said Williams looking ahead to the fixture.

โ€œWe had a lot of the ball and spent a lot of the game attacking against Rotherham last weekend.

โ€œWe had a lot of box entries, but we need to be a lot more clinical and accurate.

โ€œIt does not matter who you play, keeping an opposition from hitting the target for 90 minutes โ€“ we as did last weekend โ€“ is tough.

โ€œWe did it, but we had opportunities to score and did not take them.

โ€œWe need to convert more of our chances, Huddersfield will be highly motivated and disciplined.

โ€œThey will have a gameplan, and we are going to have to be ready for a very tough Championship game.โ€

The Ref: John Busby

It will be the ninth time the Oxfordshire-based official has overseen a Swans match following his promotion to Select Group 2 in the summer of 2021.

The most recent of those matches was a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town, while prior to that he was in charge for the September fixture between the Swans and Millwall at the Den; goals for Jamal Lowe, Matt Grimes and Mykola Kuharevich sealed three points on that latter occasion. Busby began his career as an assistant referee, and served in the EFL for eight years before switching to the whistle and joining the National List of Referees in 2016.

In total this season, he has overseen 30 matches โ€“ mostly in the Championship โ€“ and has handed out 117 yellow cards and one red. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Richard Wild and Ian Cooper. Matthew Donohue will be the
