Two more signings expected before window closes – keeper and winger due in SA1

The Swans are said to be expecting two more signings before the transfer window closes this Friday which will take the total incomings during the window to eight and, on the face of it, eight quality pieces of business which has to mean credit is given to those who have worked to make it happen.

A goalkeeper – anticipated to be Tyler Miller – is to be one of those as he provides cover for Andy Fisher who is out long term with an injury.ย  This move is expected to be a loan move until January initially with the Swans previous move for Lawrence Vigouroux giving them a first choice keeper that Luke Williams is happy to entrust with his Championship campaign.

Last week we confirmed two more signings with Nelson Abbey (Loan) and Florian Bianchini adding to the name of Vigouroux, Vipotnik, Eom and Goncalo Franco as summer arrivals, each of them names that would not have been on the tip of many tongues when last season closed back in May.

The impact of the first four signings has already been seen with Franco the choice of man of the match for many on Sunday whilst the other three have all shown in their appearances that they have added things to the squad that needed to be added this summer.ย  ย  Abbey and Bianchini are both expected to feature at some stage in tomorrow’s Carabao Cup clash with Wycombe which could also give a start to Vipotnik whilst there were international call ups confirmed yesterday for both Eom and Vigouroux.

The fact that we are ready to bring in another winger suggests that there could be a different role for Eom in the team with many tipping him for the 10 role that it is said his play is better suited to.ย  ย If that is the case then options are varied for Luke Williams in a Championship season.

So we move onto the winger who is expected to be the last arrival in SA1 this window.ย  ย The name of Siriki Dembรฉlรฉ has been linked before this window and any move for him would involve the owners dipping deep into the coffers to make a signature that is suggested would be in the region of ยฃ1.3m.ย  Norwich winger Aby Kamara is also the subject of interest from three Championship clubs with suggestions in some quarters saying that the Swans could be one of those but any deal for him is expected to be even higher than the one for Dembรฉlรฉ.

Another previous link this summer has been Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon but this seems to have died down and several sources have suggested that this is no longer on the Swans radar with the preference still to make a permanent move to strengthen the wide options at the club.ย  However, what we do know from this window is that very rarely has there been smoke without fire so interest from the Swans in the past few weeks cannot completely rule out a move being made before the closure of the window.

Three names, two probably more viable than others, but there could also be a surprise in the offing – this time last week there was little links with Bianchini for example so don’t completely rule out a left field name coming forward in more ways than one.

The addition this week though of two more signings will see us reflect back on this window as possibly the strongest we have seen since our relegation from the Premier League.ย  ย Unlike the mass panic scattergun approach of last summer this window appears to have been managed with a structure, a patience and a desire to look at options well beyond just those that appear on the radar of most of our Championship rivals.

The Swans retain an interest in Adama Sidibeh although events on the pitch last weekend could determine whether we are prepared to let that disappear for now.ย  The St Johnstone player, who has scored twice this season, has been linked with a Swans move this summer (amid reports that we had submitted a bid for him) but he received TWO res cards on Saturday in their 2-0 defeat to Dundee United.

Their manager, Craig Levein believes this could lead to a three or four game ban โ€œI need to have a look at it and work out exactly whatโ€™s gone on,โ€ he said.

โ€œSomeone downstairs said he got two yellows and a red, but I donโ€™t know about that yet and will need to establish whatโ€™s happened.

โ€œIf thatโ€™s the case heโ€™s silly โ€“ heโ€™s probably got himself a three or four game suspension.

โ€œI donโ€™t know exactly what the total of cards he got was yet, weโ€™ll have to find that out.โ€

The transfer window closes on Friday at 11pm.

Seems strange to me that we want another winger when we already have Ronald, Eom (who could move inside), Bianchini, Ginnelly, Govea and Parker on the payroll, plus Cooper can do a job out wide (just as much as he can centrally anyway).

Unless it means Abdulai is finally going to get a chance to play in midfield, I'd prefer to sign another midfielder.
Grimes has to play every second of every game apparently but then we only have Franco, Fulton (who everyone seems to want gone) and Allen, who is injured for 75% of the season as options.

Just feels to me that the limited funds could be put to better use by targeting another midfielder instead of another winger

If the plan is Eom in at 10 and only 2 new faces, hopefully the winger is someone who can cover up top also.

Think we are pretty set defensively, we could move on Tjoe a on and be fine but if both he and Pedersen go then a replacement centre half will be required with Abbey, Naughton and Abdullai abke to cover Tymon at left back.

Midfield is OK although some think we could do with another central midfielder. Grimes Franco, Allen, Abdullai and Fulton are all able to cover.

Ideal world we get a Striker, no 10/winger and goalkeeper.

Will be interesting to see given the club have kept their cards close to their chest.
I still think there might be a suprise or two come Friday.

Depends - if it does turn out to be Dembele then he can also play as a striker. Downside of him is he will cost us north of ยฃ1m is the story! Can you see us paying it?

Would be surprised to see much of Govea, Parker & Ginelly this season so really only leaves us with Ronald & Bianchini so another Winger is needed

Eom is destined for the number 10 position

Personally I would have said we need a keeper, winger & another 10 to cover for Eom, but that may be a stretch for us

Not for someone who is 28 next month.

Think a winger who can play up top if the plan is to play Eom at 10 is important.
I do worry after Sunday that Eom at 10 needs a bit of competition as he got out muscled various times in the Derby.

He was left out of Birminghams matchday squad for a second game running, could be something in it, but if heโ€™s refusing to play then Iโ€™d rather we not sign someone with issues like that.

I'd love to know what criteria we've used to target Dembele. We need someone who can score and create, yet we're looking at an attacker who scored 6 goals and had 1 assist in 35 games last season (with 2 of those goals coming against us)

Are Govea and Parker injured long term then? They had a taste of first team football last season and Govea was the subject of interest from Juventus a couple of months ago. I'd prefer us to develop our own youngsters than spend money on someone who's 28 next week and doesn't really score or create many goals

Absolutely agree with this. If a new winger comes in who fits the criteria of those signed so far this summer (relatively low fee, relatively young so with potential to grow and generate future income through a sale), then I'm fine with that. But I'd prefer to see our youngsters given a chance over signing a 28-year old who has hardly set the world on fire so far. We're unlikely to go up or down, so give our own a chance if they deserve it. It costs nothing and could make us a lot of money in the future if they're successful.

Having said that, while I appreciate the move away from masses of loan deals, I'm surprised that Abbey is looking likely to be the only one. As much as I'd like us to sign players, a quality number 10 is hard to find on a limited budget, so surprised they're not looking at a youngster from a PL club for that role. There has to be another Gibbs-White out there who needs minutes. This is the time that PL clubs are finalising their squads for the season and some good youngsters should become available as veteran players are signed before the window closes.

Young foreign players is good but you still need English experience too imo. Dembele fits that bill and is a versatile option across the front. Would be more than happy with him as a rotation
