Various media outlets are reporting that Swansea City captain Matt Grimes is edging closer to a move to Saturday’s opponents Coventry City.
After ten years at the club, the Swans midfielder has again been a mainstay in the team as Luke Williams’ men sit in the lower half of the Championship.
But it appears that with two and a half years remaining on his contract it appears that his relationship with the club will come to end with the Sky Blues increasingly confident of completing a deal before next week’s transfer deadline.
Two bids have been rejected so far but with sources at both the BBC and Wales Online understanding that a move is likely to go through, one would expect that the deal will be done sooner rather than later.
In terms of a fee it is likely to be in the region of £2-3m for the 29 year old.
To say it sets alarm bells ringing maybe a bit reactive but it is a concern that we would look to move away from someone that fans view as the glue that holds the team together.
As always time will tell in these situations but a replacement would need to be immediate amidst the continued silence from chairman and all round good guy Andy Coleman as the Swans drift towards the lower reaches of the Championship.
