Sheffield United are interested in pursuing a cut price January deal for Harry Darling with the centre half approaching the end of his contract with the Swans.
According to the Star, Chris Wilder is a big fan of the 25 year old who has 101 appearances under his belt at Swansea, scoring 9 goals and a further 6 assists.
Negotiations between the club and Darling over a new deal have effectively ended and were to be reviewed later down the road but clubs are actively sniffing an agreement before next week’s transfer deadline.
Promotion chasing United, who ironically Darling saw red against a week ago, are looking for defensive reinforcements to boost their prospects of a top two finish and would prefer to secure a deal now, rather than wait until the summer.
But Bristol City – who are under the stewardship of Liam Manning who worked with Darling at MK Dons – have always been credited with an interest and their recent moves may suggest a centre half is on the cards.
This morning Kai Naismith joined Luton Town on loan whilst Rob Atkinson joined Portsmouth earlier this month leaving the club with just three fully fit centre halves. Mind you thar would be a luxury to us these days in SA1.
A deal for Darling would be no more than £1m but with the club also saving his not insignificant salary over the remainder of his contract, a transfer away would surely make sense if one final attempt at a contract negotiation fails.
The centre back signed a 3 year deal when he joined from MK Dons in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of £1.8m.
Hope you’ve not got any days off planned, Andy…
