Trundle On His Way Out? |
Northampton have advised that they will not be making a bid for Trundle but it does suggest, if the story is true, that Kenny Jackett is looking at other striking options for next season. Speaking on Northampton’s official web-site, manager Colin Calderwood said "Kenny Jackett did ring me up to see if we would be interested, But financially it is a no-goer. "He is a very good player and I like him a lot, but I can honestly say we have made no bids for him or any other player at the minute." Trundle has one year left to run on his contract at the Vetch and any move away this summer would attract a transfer fee, something that few clubs are prepare to part with when so many players are available on a free transfer. Calderwood went onto say "We have a list as long as your arm of players who are available for nothing and it’s through that list that we will look. There are obviously certain people on that list who would be a good addition to our squad. Over the next couple of weeks we will work away at it and hopefully there will be at least one new face in by the time we start pre-season training." Lee Trundle was a revelation at the start of last season when his showboating and goals got not just the attention and adoration of the fans but also media pundits and TV shows alike. Soccer AM had a regular slot weekly on the antics of Lee Trundle and Mark Lawrenson drooled over him several times during the Swans run to the 5th round of the FA Cup, a competition which saw Trundle named in the FA Cup team of the season last year. Whether Northampton are a one off club that have been offered his services or whether there are more phone calls on the same lines going on is unknown. |
