Army Training Helped Me Says Jason

The Swansea City striker continued his hot streak yesterday with the first of the Swans three goals against Doncaster that lifted them to within a point of the Championship play off zone.

His 16th league strike of the season took him to within one of Kevin Doyle’s total at Reading and within four of the divisions leading scorer Sylvan Ebanks Blake.ย ย  It also took his Swans tally to 47 goals in just 91 appearances – a record unrivalled pretty much anywhere in the English leagues.

And he will go to Fulham on Tuesday night looking to grab more goals which could propel the Swans into the quarter finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1964.

And whilst the striker gets rave reviews from pretty much every quarter he revealed that some time in the army when he was younger helped to shape the player that he is today.

Scotland told today’s News of the World “I get all my will power and strength to succeed as a player from mh time in the army.ย ย  That spell was the best decision I have ever made.

“It made me a better person and of course a better player.ย ย  We had to do duties in the morning before you could train and play in the afternoon and evenings.

“I had all the usual duties including how to handle weapons as well as training in how to lead troops into battle.ย  Joining the service certainly has a positive effect on me as a paerson and a player.ย  I wouldn’t be playing for Swansea today otherwise.

“Defence Force (his army team) were the best side and that was partly because we were s fit.ย  I made my name there and was top scorer every season.ย  The ambition was to do well and then play abroad which I’ve achieved.

“I decided to join the army straight from school and following the path was tough as you can get.ย  When I joined I was a young boy who needed to grow up.ย  My mother wanted me to get discipline and get a good job.

“I quickly learned how to focus the mind as well as stay incredibly fit and strong.ย  I spent years there and it proved to be the turning point in my life.ย  I have no regrets.

“People don’t know I’ve survived the aremy that’s where you really do get some fearful stick.ย ย  We had to do things you don’t want to do but that discipline was important.

“If you get stick you have to stand up and take it.ย  It can affect some players but not me”
