Yesterday’s draw saw the Swans paired with Martinez and Wigan – their first meeting since he walked out on the club in the summer of 2009 for pastures new.
And Martinez, along with Brendan Rodgers were both happy with the draw with the prize for the victors being a place in the quarter finals of the competition.
โTake nothing for granted, Swansea will come to the DW with the belief they can win and we will have another tough match on our hands.” said Martinez after the draw was made.
While Brendan Rodgers told the Western Mail: โIโm sure Roberto will be looking forward to it and the lads will want to win it.
โIt would have been nice to get them at home but weโll have big motivation because we have a chance of going through to the quarter-finals.
โItโs great for us and the cup competitions are really great for momentum.โ
Alan Tate played under and alongside Martienz at the Swans and he added โIt was always going to happen
โItโs one to look forward to, for us as players and for the supporters.
โIโm sure itโs one theyโve wanted since he left and we will take a big support with us.
โBut itโs something we must put to the back of our minds for the time being.
โAt the moment we need to concentrate on our league games.โ
