Nugent Targetting Cup Shock

Nugent is No 2 at Leyton Orient having been in a similar position at Swansea City as well as playing for the club and a (very) short spell as caretaker manager before the appointment of Roberto Martinez.

And he believes that the O’s have a chance of upsetting the Swans in the same way that they upset our promotion rivals Norwich in Round Three.

Nugent told the Western Mail โ€œWe know weโ€™re playing one of the best teams in the Championship on Saturday

โ€œAnd it goes without saying that itโ€™s a very tough game for us.

โ€œBut we had a tough game in the last round against Norwich – a similar side to Swansea in the way they play โ€“ and had a very difficult game, but we played very well and deserved to get the win.

โ€œIโ€™m sure there are Swansea supporters that fancy their chances of being in the fifth round come Sunday, just as Iโ€™d expect our supporters to think like that if we drew a team from the league below at home.

โ€œBut weโ€™re looking for a result and we can take confidence from the last round we can do that.

โ€œItโ€™s a big ask for us but thatโ€™s what weโ€™ll be looking to do,โ€ said Nugent, who also spent time in South Wales in Cardiff City colours before his Swans stint.

โ€œAnd Iโ€™m sure Brendan Rodgers will not be taking the game lightly; he will have watched us a few times already and got his preparation spot on because he will want to make sure Swansea are in the next round.

โ€œBut itโ€™s 11 players against 11 and ours have seen that it can be possible to go and get a result against good sides now.

โ€œOver a period of a season thereโ€™s a big difference between ourselves and Swansea City โ€“ but in a one-off game you can have that extra spring in your step.

โ€œWhat Swansea have done is fantastic and great credit to everyone involved,โ€ said the 41-year-old.

โ€œIโ€™ve got some great memories from my time there; I left Orient as a player when they signed me and the club were something like six points adrift when I joined.

โ€œWe had that brilliant day against Hull to stay up and things have just gone on and on from there.

โ€œBut it hasnโ€™t surprised me โ€“ even just after we avoided going down you could see the club was looking to the future with the new stadium and the players like Alan Tate and Leon Britton that came in.

โ€œTheyโ€™ve gone about it the right way on and off-the-field, progressing gradually and the chairman has done a great job running the club.

โ€œItโ€™s a great example for others to follow and Iโ€™m sure there can be more success for the club to come.โ€
