It was midnight by the time the official website announced the signing of David Edgar on loan from Championship rivals Burnley – Edgar arriving for a second loan spell at the Liberty Stadium.
It had looked all the way as if it would be a quiet last day to the transfer window for the Swans with no new arrivals at the club but with defensive cover short in supply it was someone familiar to the supporters that arrived and will feature in the squad for Sunday’s local derby with Cardiff City.
Edgar was not signed in time to feature tonight at Ashton Gate but he will provide much needed cover for a defence that is currently without Garry Monk and Neil Taylor.
Edgar played five times for the Swans at the back end of last season, scoring once but chances have been limited at Burnley since his return and the two sides were only too happy to conclude a deal that will keep him at the Liberty until the end of the season.
