Byers winning no friends at Portsmouth?

Swansea midfielder George Byers will not be winning himself any friends at Portsmouth after it was revealed that he walked out on Tuesday night having been left out of the squad for the 2-0 win over Portsmouth.

Byers joined the League One club in the January transfer window but has made just two starts since the move and now finds himself being left out of the squad which prompted his early departure from the ground when he elected not to watch the match.

“He was there and has left the ground,” confirmed Pompey boss Kenny Jackett.

“It is (frustration). Whether a player stays and watches the game, they donโ€™t necessarily have to.

“He wants the chance, he wants the opportunity. He thinks he can do it, too, but thereโ€™s some frustration at not playing.

“Like every player, he wants the chance, he wants to play and he wants to do well for Portsmouth, definitely.

“They are all good intentions and then thereโ€™s some frustration in there with not getting an opportunity.”

Byers himself has talked about how he had hoped to make an impression at Portsmouth.ย  Speaking at the start of February he said “I come with an expectation, Iโ€™m a confident boy and I believe in my ability. If that pressure comes Iโ€™m ready to take it.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself to play well and put in good performances.

“If I donโ€™t do that Iโ€™m my own biggest critic so Iโ€™ll be putting pressure on myself to do that week-in, week-out.”
