Jamal “buzzing” at international debut

Jamal Lowe is fifteen games without a goal for the Swans with his last strike being back in mid January in a 2-0 win at Barnsley, a goal that at the time took his tally to seven in seven.

Since that moment though he has struggled to have any real impact on games and it is clear to see that the player is a confidence player and with each passing game that confidence has eroded a little more.

The potential good news for Swans fans though is that Lowe ended his goal scoring drought this week with a goal on his international debut for Jamaica.ย  ย The goal may not have had much impact for the Reggae Boyz as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat to the USA in Austria but it certainly has Lowe buzzing not just for the goal but his first appearance on the senior international stage.

Lowe netted in the 70th minute of the game to bring the Jamaicans back into the game after they trailed 2-0 but two late goals gave the score line a one sided feel and a comfortable win for the USA.

Lowe though was not downhearted after the game and talked about his feelings on debut, how the goal was the result of some of the limited amount of training they managed to get in but also how he hopes to return for more in the future.

Speaking to The Jamaica Gleaner Lowe said:ย “I was buzzing just to start to be honest. I was happy to be put in the starting 11 and obviously to score and help the team is amazing.

“Obviously, the result doesn’t look as satisfying as we want it to be, but it’s a learning curve and this is what the friendlies are about. It’s about learning, seeing the players, building a relationship and trying to build something special.

“Obviously, it’s been a very short trip. We only trained twice. So if we had a two-week trip or a couple of games, I think we would definitely start to gel a little bit more.

“The goal is something that we have worked on, trying to hit teams on the counter-attack and we literally just [did] it to the tee,” he said. “I hit Dre (Gray) in behind. He held it up well, waited for support, and then played me back in and I managed to finish it.”
