Donovan interview – nothing of note

The ownership group of Swansea City have rolled out their regular PR machine in former US international Landon Donovan to tell us all they are good guys really and how they would love to be in the Premier League.

In other news, today is Tuesday, weather was mainly dry and bears do indeed undertake their toilet habits in the woods.ย  The BBC bought us an earth shattering exclusive with Donovan that I don’t think will match the fall out of the Harry and Meghan interview with another one of our supposed “owners” in Oprah Winfrey.

Donovan was speaking as the Swans looked forward to Friday’s game at Birmingham that will be the first of nine cup finals ahead of us as we look to secure the points that we hope can return us to the Premier League.ย  Donovan told the BBC when asked if the Swans could win promotion “I hope so. I really hope so. It was really hard to watch them get relegated. It’s been really enjoyable.

“Last year was stressful and they nearly got there, but it’s been really enjoyable this year to watch. I think Steve Cooper’s done a fantastic job. I really hope they finish the job now.”

Of course every member of the ownership group will want us to win promotion as the only real way that they can ever recoup their investment with a profit given the fact that it is the only division where the money really is.

Donovan was also understanding of the criticism aimed at Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan since they took over but said that they do have the best interests of the club (not their pockets!) at heart and addedย “I know it means a lot to them. More than what most people maybe think or realise. They want to do right by the club and the city and get the team back in the Premier League.

“Although it may not always appear that way or seem that way, I can promise you that they’re committed to it and we all hope that happens.”

Levien and Kaplan have rarely (if at all) been seen in Swansea since the club was relegated from the Premier League in 2018 and it is widely speculated that recent new investor Jake Silverstien is being lined up as the potential new owner of the club should Levien and Kaplan decide to bail out on their ownership.

Most of what Donovan said is entirely predictable and not the result of incisive journalism as he answered questions about whether Americans would be interested in two of their internationals playing for Swansea (although Jordan Morris unfortunately had to return home due to injury) and how he still watches the Swans regularly.ย  ย None of it would be a surprise to hear and there was nothing earth shattering in the interview to think about.
