Cooper not giving up with seven still to play

Steve Cooper says that he is not giving up on their promotion hopes when there are still seven games left to play but he acknowledges again that performances in the last four have not been good enough.

Cooper was speaking to the press ahead of the Swans Saturday lunchtime clash at Millwall looking not necessarily just for the three points but in search of a performance after the heavy criticism that has followed the run of four straight defeats.

Four games, no points and no goals says much about where it has all gone wrong for Steve and his squad but with points still needed to secure a minimum play off berth he knows that things have to turn around quickly or the team could fall into a place where they are chasing a spot that for so long looked like it would be the minimum return for this season.

โ€œWe’ve got to believe in our work, I’ve got to believe in the players and we’ve shown we can perform at a good level and we’re got to work even harder to try and get back to that standard and it’s only us that can do it,โ€ he said.

Arguably the Swans have not hit a decent performance since they beat Norwich at the Liberty at the start of February and have hit their poorest run of form under Cooper at just the worst point of the season with the other sides chasing a top six place hitting a bit of form.

โ€œWe can’t look outside of our own circle, and that starts with me, and the players I know will do the same.

โ€œWe are still up there and that’s the lens we’re going to have to look at it through.

โ€œWe know the last four games have not been good enough, and those really disappointing stats that run along those losses.

โ€œBut we’re still fourth in the league, there’s still seven games to play. We’ve got to try and step away from it a little bit, put things in perspective and say ‘come on then, there’s still loads to play for’. We’re not going to give up. Let’s go.
