Phil SumblerIt could be a huge week or so ahead for both the Swansea City mens and ladies football teams after the Ladies demolished Cardiff City 6-0 this afternoon to stand within just one point of retaining their league title and on the verge of a league and cup double.
With the men’s team last night securing their place in the Championship play off final at Wembley, the Swans could be celebrating on multiple fronts by this time next week and may have to make extra room in the Liberty Stadium trophy cabinet ahead of what could be a huge week for the club.
The Swans were just too good for their Cardiff City opponents this afternoon running riot in the game to move level on points with Cardiff Met at the top of the table but with the one game remaining against Aberystwyth.
The Swans were clinical throughout and raced to a three-goal lead through Laura Davies, Tija Richardson and Katy Hosford, the latter securing her hat-trick in the second period to add to Stacey John-Davis’ strike.
Colin Staples’ side now head into their final league fixture against Abergavenny needing just a point to be crowned champions. The fixture takes place next Sunday with the Swans coming head to head with Cardiff again on Wednesday night in the cup final.
