De Vries Insists Confidence Still High

Cruising to yet another win on their travels, the Swans conceded two late goals to gift Crewe a point that looked unlikely as the clock ticked past the eighty minute mark.ย ย  But the Dutch goalkeeper insists that it will not have an adverse effect on the Swans confidence levels which should be extremely high on the back of a fourteen game unbeaten league run stretching back to November.

And with an immediate chance to put things right against promotion chasing Walsall on Tuesday night, the Swans will be only too aware that the right result in midweek will see the Crewe game banished to the distant memory it deserves to be.

De Vries told the Evening Post “When you go 2-0 up, you think normally that you should bury this one,

“You think that should be job done, and it’s hard to believe that we’ve ended up with only a point because it should have been all three.

“We’ve learned harsh lessons already this season, like at Swindon where we lost two points in the last couple of minutes.

“We shouldn’t have given two goals away against a team like Crewe, or at least not as easily as we did.

“We should be stronger in defence and be more ruthless, which means getting the ball up the pitch and keeping it there to use up some time.

“We also needed a third goal to finish them off. We talked about that at half-time, but we didn’t create the chances to score it and we got punished in the end.

“We have to stay positive and say that a point away from home is not that bad even though it should have been a win,

“And we’ll keep our heads up for a big game against Walsall where we’ll look to put things right. We’re looking forward to the game and we’re confident.

“We’re all disappointed for Dennis because he has done tremendously well for us this season

“But we’ve got depth in the squad – that’s why we’re top of the league I think – and Tatey is an experienced player in League One who will do a great job.”
