Port Vale 0 Swansea 2 – Manager Reactions

Roberto Martinez

“We had to be very good defensively and we were. Port Vale started the game a lot better than us and I was very pleased with the way we stood up to it.

“We have had a lot of praise for the good football we play, but every successful team also needs the other side of the game. Teams who can’t defend don’t win many games.

“I was also pleased with the way we held our lead after scoring the goals. We let a 2-0 lead slip at Crewe last week and the way we saw out this game made a statement.

“We have a very good winning mentality in the team and that should hold us in good stead. We’ve got 15 games remaining and we’ve put ourselves in a strong position.

Lee Sinnott

“We were the team in the ascendancy in the first half and our biggest problem was we failed to take our chances.

“You have to strike while the iron is hot in football and when you miss chances you only have yourselves to blame.

“I don’t know if it was a penalty, but once Swansea got their noses in front they showed why they are at the top of the table.

“They were like a peacock showing its feathers and the confidence was flowing right through them. As we all know, goals change games.

“What I am proud of is the way my players keep coming back in adversity. They have taken a lot of knocks, but they can take immense pride with the spirit they keep showing.”
