Swansea City take on promotion chasing Watford this evening at the Swansea.com Stadium in what is sure to be a defining match one way or another.
Eight games without a win and reeling off just a single point in three since returning after the World Cup no manager is in need of a win more than Russell Martin.
The Swans boss came out fighting with some rather strong words for his players in the aftermath of defeat at Reading so how will the team react?
Nothing is certain in the Championship but would anyone rule out a Swansea win this evening? The only thing sure about the tenure of this manager is the inconsistency that has plagued his team since arriving in SA1.
But when under genuine pressure he does get results from nowhere. That needs to start this evening especially with Burnley arriving on Monday. It couldn’t get any tougher could it?
This week Swansea City’s leading forum run a poll about whether Martin should indeed survive the wretched run of form and fans have spoken with the majority in favour of him not surviving.
318 votes were cast with 83% favouring Martin out. If he hasn’t lost the fanbase entirely at the Swansea.com Stadium yet then further defeats against Watford and Burnley could surely push him closer to the edge
Team News
How does one guess tonight’s team News? It would be easier to propose who should be in rather than who will be.
Fin Stevens is looking likely to be recalled by Brentford in the coming days and West Ham can’t be far off coming to the same decision for Armstrong Oko-Flex when he has played barely 100 minutes since joining in the summer.
Despite the horror show at Reading Steven Benda should start in goal with Nathan Wood, Harry Darling and Ben Cabango in a back three. Oko-Flex would be an attacking option at right back and Manning on the left.
In midfield you cannot start Fulton, Grimes and Allen therefore pick two of the above – dare I say drop Grimes – and then look to Cooper, Obafemi and Piroe as the front three.
It won’t happen but probably should.
