Roger Speaks Out

Swansea keeper Roger Freestone has spoken out about the events at the Vetch Field today after trying to come to terms with what they have faced as a team unit today.

“I am shocked and disappointed at what has happened. I did not expect to see someone coming into buy the club and then sacking players and putting others on reduced rates. I don’t want to leave Swansea City but you have to wonder now what the future holds.”

As part of Roger’s testimonial team, and co-author of his biography, I have naturally spoken to Roger several times over the last year or so and I have to say that never in that time have I heard him sound as down as he is today. He loves this club, but if you can imagine how the players are feeling then you can understand what he is saying.

Would you accept a half pay offer to stay at your employer? especially if there were other employers prepared to take you on for more money? I wouldn’t.

This has got much much more to run than what we have heard today. The news that Stuart Roberts appears to have been sold this afternoon and Rushden & Diamonds have already expressed their interest in Matthew Bound is frightening.

The news that we also turned down an offer from the PFA to pay the wages is highly worrying and we have to wonder what the future now holds for us as a football club. Within an hour, our playing staff has been cut from 26 to 19 with one of those being a loan player.

Gareth Phillips is suspended, others are not fit are we going to be able to field a side on Saturday is the question. And from then on in.

Everybody understands that costs need to be cut but did anyone foresee it happening in this way? I certainly didn’t. Make no mistake of it, Swansea City is a club in crisis and as supporters we cannot afford to sit back and watch the club that we all love be ripped apart from the centre like this.

Swansea City: Andy Coleman has much to answer for right now

Swansea City Chairman Andy Coleman has often asked us to judge him by his actions and all too often when we sit back and do judge him on those actions we realise just how out of his depth he is as Chairman of a professional football club. Many people will…
