The Swansea City Supporters’ Trust agrees and supports the stance taken by Swansea Council over the current ownership of Swansea City AFC. Mr Petty arrived only two weeks ago with promises of introducing substantial finance from his backers in Australia.

And today he asked for financial support from the Council. Even though the club is in dire financial straits and the continuation of a professional football league club is vitally important to the economic well being of the area we believe the Council’s decision to refuse Mr Petty’s request is both a brave decision and the right decision.

A Trust spokesman said ‘ Tony Petty has not put forward any rational motives for buying into the club and it is difficult to see how any Council, with the whole City to answer to, would be able to support what is happening at the club at present. We expect the sackings of players two weeks ago to be only the beginning. Further decimation of the first team squad seems certain whilst Mr Petty remains in control.

Mr Petty has a chequered past and until he relinquishes ownership of the club it is difficult to see how the Councils decision could be any different. The Trust applauds the authority for its diligence and obvious concern over the football club’ The Trust would also like to inform its members that our representatives were indeed approached by Mr Petty after yesterdays Council public meeting and the focus group are considering his request to meet.
