Fulham set to complete £1m move for keeper

Steven Benda was said yesterday to be undertaking his medical at Fulham ahead of a £1m move which will take him to the Cottagers despite an injury that is likely to keep him out of action until after Christmas.

It was back at the end of July that we first wondered whether the arrival of Carl Rushworth at Swansea could signal the end for Steven Benda and just a few days later there were the first press suggestions that Fulham could be the destination for the keeper.

We covered that press reporting in our article of 1st August (here) and yesterday the same journalist (Ian Mitchelmore) stated that he was having a medical at Fulham ahead of the move.

With Benda in the last year of his contract a fee of £1m appears on the face of it to be good business although with now just loanee Rushworth and Andy Fisher at the club it does leave us short of goalkeeping cover in the event of any injury or suspension to either of the two goalkeepers.

It does give us the clear indication though that Michael Duff did not see Benda as part of his first team plans when he returns from injury and, with that being the case, a move away was the only logical outcome.

Official outcome I guess is to follow shortly.

  1. Whatever can we do with all this money? Oberfemi 4.5 Whitaker1m Joseph and Lati .5m each Piroe 12 Benda1m.
    Close to 20m .
If we add it to the new investment we should be just about o.k

  2. I think it’s good business getting 1m for a crocked player. However the similar pattern undetr he yanks is coming to the fore.
We seem to be shipping out more players than we are bringing in.
Beginning of the transfer window I thought with all the signings being mooted we were making up for the inactivity of the January window.
However as the window has gone on we have been dribbling out even over players leaving is no better off or even worse off than before.
We are getting back to a threadbare squad again. That’s not good

  3. Steve should have succeeded Fab. One of Swans’ most loyal and best servants, he deserves a lucky break after such a bad injury.

  4. Don’t want to go over old ground but no wonder Martin is laughing at us in his press conference .Despite all the big talk from the new chairman we are in the same position we always find ourselves- selling players late and scrambling to sign anyone we can .There’s a Sorinola around every corner .
We seem amongst others to be looking at a 19 year defender from Liverpool whose experience is 14 games for Kilmarnock.

  5. Does anyone have an update on the Keinan Davies fiasco we seem to keep attracting?
All we seem to be talking about is defenders which we have needed for 2 seasons now.
Piroe goes …we show interest in a striker and then it disappears with no talk of a piroe replacement.
Can’t we just have an honest update for once of what the intentions are?

  6. If it has to be signed off by Levein he’ll argue that we’ve got Yates ,Cullen and Kukharevych and don’t need any more. We’ll know soon enough .If things end the way they did in January we’ll also know that nothing’s changed .Let’s hope for a different result .
If not we know thathis crew will stay while there’s money to be made and players to be sold.

  7. The same problem every year now, 20 million out 5million in on players, these yanks are having a good pay day every year with this club now , do the care about the club or filling there pockets

Can the Swans secure an agreement for second loan with Brighton?

There is little doubt that Carl Rushworth was one of the highlights of a pretty dismal season in SA1.   Clean sheets and a host of great saves were more than enough to give the on-loan goalkeeper a triple win in last week’s awards dinner but with the season is now…

Swansea City 0-1 Millwall – limp Swans end with a whimper

Swansea limped over the line at the end of the season as a dogged Millwall side came away with a 1-0 win on a sunny afternoon in South Wales. The Swans never really got up to speed in a below par performance that generally summed up their season; big chance…
