Michael Duff and Paul Watson will sit down today to discuss the plans for the final few days of the transfer window as the Swans boss looks over where he believes his squad needs strengthening.
A left back, a central defender, creative midfielder and striker are all likely to be on the agenda as the recruitment team in SA1 works through what is needed and how we get suitable players in through the door before the window closes at the end of Friday.
There have already been eight new arrivals at Swansea this summer but the club are likely to be looking for at least 3 or 4 more new additions and that is before any factor is made for the potential (and likely) departure of Nathan Wood to Southampton.
Recent stories have seen the likes of Josh Tymon and Luke Chambers both linked with moves to Swansea whilst Keinan Davis remains very much of interest to the Swans although interest from elsewhere has maybe moved this further away than it seemed at the weekend.
Duff was asked of his latest transfer plans after the 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat at home to Bournemouth last night starting with the links with Josh Tymon.
“He’s a left-back, and we need a left-back,” said the Swans boss.ย “So people can put two and two together quite a lot. I think he’s a good player. I’ve watched quite a lot of him. I watched him when he was a young lad coming through. But he’s not the only left-back we’ve been talking to.
“If I told you about every bid we’ve had, and again, it’s boring.ย We’ve had loads of bids turned down. We’ve had loads of bids accepted that have been turned down by the player in terms of personal terms.”
Moving onto Davis, Duff added “He’s a player that’s been mentioned to us, I think every club in the league would be interested in someone like him. Whether anything happens with it, I don’t know.
“I’ll have a catch-up with Paul Watson Wednesday. I’m due a three or four-hour meeting with Paul tomorrow just to find out where we are. As you can imagine, the phone’s been buzzing in my pocket the whole game. I’m not in a position to check my phone during the game. So I’ll touch base with Paul.
“Without labouring the point, we know we need a few people in and hopefully we’ll get that. If we don’t, we don’t. It is what it is. We just have to try and improve every day.”
We’ll be lucky to get a lone player and maybe a free. 24 million quid banked by the vultures., maybe riding to 34 million with the dale of Wood. We are sleepwalking towards religation to div 1. We have puppets at .com, working for the main man back in the States. No vision no commitment. Yanks out of our football club.
Agree with David 100%.Talk this morning of us signing a 21 yr old reserve keeper from Wimbledon .Just what we need.
Having been at rhe match last night thatโs the lowest iโve felt for a while .The gap between the two teams was enormous .We looked like a bottom 6 championship side .
Not well organised by Duff youโd have to say but still making last seasons regular mistakes .The space for Brooks to score and the third goal being a case in point.Once we lose the ball in the opposition half the field seems to open up .Anyone remember Sheff utd ,Birmingham and Forest on numerous occasions.
We simply need about four good mature players not kids from premier league squads .And as David said thatโs the problem .Will the owners or perhaps Levein stump up a few million from the big profit heโs made on sales .Hard to see .Most likely sell Wood last minute and replace with another loanee.
What we need are 3 or 4 players of the quality of Key.They are out there and they donโt cost a fortune.
Youngsters like Abdullai are talented but you pay for their lack of experience
I hope this doesn’t lead to a blame the manager syndrom . Duff needs support to get the deals that could get us up and running, but no we now find ourselves in frustration alley. The main man is not available to give his expertise when it is needed most. They must think that we the supporters are still using outside lavatories, with sheep keeping us warm on cold nights. They are tucking us up big time. How long is it going to take befo we take action to get this mob out of our club. I hope we dont end up in division 2 fighting for our league status. Get the Yanks out of our football club, afterall they have no interest in creating something special.
While it’s nice to see these young loan players at the club there is no substitute for experience ! .
We need experienced players at this level as the championship is a hard league , not overly optimistic in the remaining days of the transfer window . And please no panic buys , it’s not worth it .
This is beginning to feel a lot like our usual transfer window. Duff will have his work cut out getting results out of our current squad .
After his initial rant the chairman seems to be lying low.
While thereโs money to be made and players to be sold this lot are going nowhere
dale of wood? nice one david bones
them bones them bones
The owners must be laughing all the way to the bank , but they’re killing the goose that lays the golden egg, if they had any sense they’d spend a few bob and get us back to the the Premier leauge where the pickings are so much more , take a look at Leeds who realise how important it is to be there and invest in quality. Joe piroe, need I say any more
We the fans, we’re sold a dream, namely, “the next level” The vultures came to our football club, armed to the teeth with lies. They syphoned off money through player sales and parachute payments, financing their own dream of lots and lots of dollers in their bank accounts. Historicaly, Swansea have been fleeced by vultures such as Tony Petty, who bought the club for a pound. There is no difference now as to the previous attempts to run the club into the ground. Sorry there is one difference, the amount of money, a couple of thousand quid then, millions at the current time. So Swans fans, young, Middle aged, and older, let’s get together and get this bunch of vultures out. We will never stop dreaming.
Hear we go again, the last day of the transfer window, it is history repeating itself over the last 4 seasons we promised the manager he could more or less buy eny players that he wanted !! AS LONG AS HE DOSENT SPEND ENY MONEY . THE SAME OLD STORY FROM THE YANKS OWNERS. MAYBE A LOAN PLAYER , OR A FREE PLAYER , AS NONE OF THEM WILL COST A LOT OF MONEY. WHAT A SHAMBLES WE ARE BECOMING. IT IS OUR CLUB , NOT THE YANKS .SO UNLESS WE GET THEM OUT NOW !! WE ARE GOING TO START GOING DOWN THE LEAGUE VERY QUICKLY, THEN IT IS THE NEXT DIVISION DOWN AFTER THAT .SO HOPE THAT I AM SO WRONG OVER THIS .BUT IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THINKING ALONG THESE LINES .
