We must fight off any Blackburn Rovers move for Liam

Medial reports surfaced last night that Liam Cullen maybe a late target for Blackburn Rovers on deadline day which is something that the Swans must fight off to avoid leaving our squad weaker.

The departure of Joel Piroe has already weakened the forward line options available to Michael Duff and although there is a chance that we can strengthen on this final day of the window that seems some way off hence the need to keep hold of Cullen.

His nine goals last season were a definite high point of the season and his selection last weekend following Piroe’s departure (as predicted here) suggests that Michael Duff certainly does see that he has a future at the club with a possible incentive of first team football being more regular.

Football Insider reported last night that “Blackburn are keen to bring in a new striker before Fridayโ€™s transfer deadline and they are monitoring Cullenโ€™s situation at Swansea.”

They cite Cullen being in the last year of his contract with no new deal yet on the table and we have already seen Piroe and Benda depart both of whom were also in the last year of their contracts.

This could mean that the Swans look to cash in on Cullen now but it is difficult to see how that can create any impression of ambition at a club where the new investors have led us to believe that ambition and promotion is high up the agenda.

The publication added that “Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is looking to add some more attacking depth to his side late into the window, with Football Insider revealing on Thursday that Blackburn had submitted a bid for Hertha Berlin star Derry Scherhant.”

This one for me is very simple, whatever Blackburn decide to do then we have to hold onto Liam and any advances we should be rejecting without a second thought.

  1. That kind of footballer sadly doesn’t exist anymore. I’m afraid if the offer is good Liam will go – add in the current owners appear to be asset stripping again!!

  2. We have got to score goals to be successful, we have not replaced a 10million pound striker and there is no pace in the team, so it looks like league one here we come, thanks to the current owners
