Where are the Swans up to as the window enters the last few hours?

It’s been a busy day of speculation so far in Swansea and, with the window now in its last few hours, we wonder exactly how the window will close as the Swans look set to certainly add to their squad once all the final details are completed.

The day has been a busy one with more than half a dozen players linked but, as of yet, we have had no sign of white smoke from the chimneys at the Swansea.com to signal the completion of any formal signings.   But there will be.

So what has happened and what is likely to be seen through to completion?

Jamal Lowe looks set to be a short term loan signing.  He is of course known to us here in Swansea having played for us under Steve Cooper.  Unable to secure a regular place at Bournemouth he appears to be our forward player of choice or at least our forward player of choice bridging a gap until maybe we look for other options ahead of the January window.

Josh Tymon is said to be in Swansea and undergoing a medical.   It looks like a reasonably pricey (for us) signing with the fee reported at £2m but we need a defender and he ticks many of the boxes that we like to have ticked.   Like Lowe, this is expected to be a signing confirmed before the window closes.

Bashir Humphreys also seems to be a confirmed signing.   Linked with the Swans for some time now it looked (and was even reported this morning) that he would be remaining with Chelsea but again we expect to see this one confirmed before the evening is out.

Two defenders and a forward were certainly on our agenda in these closing stages of the window and certainly in the case of the defensive additions we appear to have done well and we know that Jamal Lowe can also do a job at this level.  Add to that we still have the potential of Kristian Pedersen which has gone quiet today but by all accounts yesterday looked a very likely deal

We also appear to be in the market for a midfielder which will be good news to Swans fans and we have had two key links in this department today.

Darko Gyabi was an “out of the blue link” just a couple of hours ago with reports that we had hijacked a move from Fleetwood for the midfielder.   The first reports suggested that we were pretty confident of landing this deal and he certainly seems the most likely of the targets to land.   Can see this one happening although there are no confirmed reports of him being in or around SA1.

John Buckley was almost a fleeting link when it first appeared earlier this evening.   The initial reports suggested we were in with a £3m bid for the midfielder but the same publication moved it on relatively quickly by saying a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday was back on the cards and the player would prefer to stay in the North.   We know Swansea is not in the North so this seems unlikely.  Although we never say never.

Ronnie Edwards was one of the first links today when reports surfaced that we had made a bid – and had it turned down – for the defender.   The bid was subsequently suggested to be in the region of £2m and whilst some press suggestions were Peterborough wanted £10m this one seems off the table as we appeared to be moving towards Josh Tymon.

So on the basis of the above I would say that only Gyabi is a potential addition to the three that seem confirmed (almost) above.  Four players though in a day and in positions we identified does not seem like bad business for the final day of the window.   And when you add them to the nine already signed then it is one of our busiest windows for many years.

There was of course news today as well that two of our summer targets had moved elsewhere.  Jonathan Panzo preferred to sign for Cardiff on loan whilst just a short while ago it was confirmed that Keinan Davis had signed for Udinese.   Proof that anything can happen before a transfer is completed as both were very much in with a chance of signing for the Swans.

And for that reason we will remain a little nervous until the pictures, tweets and articles are written in the official places.  All eyes on there!

  1. Well Bashir Humpreys has signed on a season long loan and that does surprise me. Would have bet on Chelsea keeping him but now he’s here. Just hope that Lowe is one that doesn’t happen 🙏
