What does deadline day hold for the Swans?

The transfer window will close this evening at 11pm and Swans fans all over will be hoping that we are about to see some additions to the squad on the last day of the window.

The words of those who have influence at the club have rung loud for many months that much work and preparation has gone into this window and that we would be in a position to strengthen the squad this month.ย  ย It is therefore very frustrating that we reach these last few hours of the window with just the addition of Ronald confirmed with the squad although news last night suggested that we had reached agreement for the loan signing of Charles Sagoe Jr from Arsenal

Luke Williams was, even at the start of this week, very praising of the work that is going on behind the scenes but all that hard work will count for nothing if we do end up coming out of January with a weaker squad than we went into it with,

That, right now, is a very real possibility with talk and speculation being more about who may move on before the window closes than who may come in but, even if players aren’t a fit for us long term, we cannot afford to move on any first team regulars without some level of replacements coming in as replacements.

“What I can tell you is we are investing in data,” said Coleman back in November.ย  “We are investing in scouting, we are investing in Paul Watson and others and we are planning not only for January but for other windows as well.

“I have told you before: don’t tell me what you are going to do, show me what you have done. The summer was a great success.”

The question as to whether the summer was a great success is already up for debate with the loan players not guaranteed first team starts and already we have seen the moving on of Tjoe-A-On and there are already doubts over the futures here of Pedersen, Yates and Kuharevich.ย  ย Success in so much as we completed many deals but the quality of those deals in many cases left much to be desired.

“One of the things we needed to learn from [experiences at] this football club and others,” added Coleman. “Was looking at windows in a very narrow band.

“We have changed our mindset now to think three windows out. We are planning not only for January but for next summer and the next January.

“That’s the only way we can build a consistent pipeline of players coming through that improve the football club.”

They were words that made sense in November but right now as we enter the last day of the window then they sound like hollow words and today the spotlight will very much be on both Coleman and Paul Watson to see what they deliver after a relatively long period of poor windows behind the current ownership group.

Full judgement will of course be reserved for the final closure of the window this evening and we watch on with interest to see what this final day looks like for us.

Over to you Swansea City.

In comings we need atleast 2 in.......Striker, central midfielder, creative 10 and a centre half in that order of requirement.

Don't think all those positions will be added hence my atleast 2 wording but at the same time I think 1 or 2 could wait until the summer.

Some will be dependent on outgoings.

If we let Yates go then we need to replace him. We can cope for now (in my view) without the centre half and midfielder for now. Be interesting to see if anything develops with this Danish midfielder

The Danish midfielder would be the signing Iโ€™d want most nowโ€ฆ Young, physical, skillful - feel he could transform our midfield.

I would be surprised if anything happens with that Danish midfielder.....if it happens then it's a bonus for me.
His fee, age and ceiling looks good and the type of player we should be looking at considering how poor our midfield is.

Iโ€™d be surprised too.

Have a sneaky suspicion thereโ€™ll be a couple more surprises today.

Unlikely we will sign anyone from outside the domestic leagues today I think.

No time for medicals, additional paperwork to be done.

My guess is weโ€™ll sign the Arsenal youngster on loan and there will probably be a last minute attempt to persuade a Lower league team to part with an upcoming player I.e Ronnie Edwards

ASho
Missed the boat big time with him, Out of all the howlers, I'd say this one is top of the tree for Watson.

Hard to blame Watson for this. We wanted to sign him in the Summer but couldnโ€™t afford the asking price.

Because we didn't accept a monumental offer for Wood. Who in turn, lost all of his value.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
