Frustrated Luke reacts to Ipswich defeat as his Swans switch off again

It sounds a familiar story and Luke Williams was talking about the same mistakes that we can all see when he reflected back on the 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich that made it four home league defeats from four for the Swans boss.

The Swans toiled hard during the game but ultimately fell short again as a fourth consecutive loss for Luke Williams at home in the league ensued with the defensive problems not clearing as the team seem to switch off at vital periods in the game.

The frustration of conceding a goal so soon after we got ourselves back in the game would definitely be something that the Swans boss rued while it should not go totally unforgotten that Carl Rushworth twice had to tip strong shots onto the woodwork in the second half of the game to keep us in it.

Whilst defeats to Leeds and Ipswich can maybe expected, games against the top four have passed us by this season (Played 8, lost 8) and that means we have to start picking up points from the other games that we face – Sunderland, Blackburn and Watford may not all be must win games but we have to be picking up points from those fixtures as we now longer have the excuse of top four opposition to fall back on.

“We conceded the goals in a real silly way which is disappointing.ย  We put pressure on, got back in the game and then switched off from a free kick in the opposition half – that is where the frustration is.

“We done all we could to get back on level terms but we have to play less anxious and not switch off for periods of the game,

“This is a pattern for this group that they concede too often when they score and we have to keep working to stop that.

“There was not so much of a lack of effort today and the group was tight but the opposition were fantastic and we were a match for them – no complaints on the work rate or intensity.

“Fifty crosses today showed we did a lot to give ourselves a chance to win but we have to focus every second of the game and the better the opposition the more this is the case.

“I hope we can demonstrate that we are trying to improve and working hard.”

Not shy of throwing his players under the bus. Talking about conceding goals so soon after scoring as being a recurring feature of 'this group of players' when I think it's only been happening a lot since he became manager, so...

Iโ€™ll cut him some slack as we need to (we wonโ€™t be replacing him any time soon) based on the fixture list that he faced upon walking in. I will measure him over the next six weeks and not the last six.

The scum game has now propelled itself to a different kind of importance. Them doing the double and possibly putting us in the bottom 4 is a prospect that now needs the utmost attention.
