Is injury going to end Liam’s time in SA1?

Liam Walsh has been a player that has seen his time at Swansea blighted by injury.ย  ย Numerous returns have been ended prematurely and this latest one could signal the end of his Swansea City career given that his contract expires in the summer.

Walsh was settling himself into the Swansea midfield on a more regular basis when injury curtailed his match against West Bromwich Albion on New Year’s Day and Swans boss Luke Williams has said that it will be tough for Walsh to be back before the season ends.

Walsh is one of several Swansea players who reach the end of their deal this summer and given he will have had no chance to impress the Swans boss before that happens it is tough to see how we could offer him a new contract.

“It’s really tough for him,” said Williams.

“I know him from watching him at Bristol City as well and when I was here first time around. But again, [he has had] so many injuries.

“When we do see him, he is outstanding – what a player. I am hoping we get to see him before the end of the season and then we can see how it is.

“He just doesn’t seem to be able to make the progress he wants to make, he is doing every single thing that he can. I look round during the game and he is in the row behind the dugout and he is standing up – he tried to head one in at one point.

“He is such a good guy and wants to be on the pitch for the team. He has just been unfortunate with his rehabilitation, with small setbacks a couple of times.

“We have to concentrate on the rehabilitation and then see where we are towards the end of the season.”

Didnโ€™t work out. Worth the initial punt, not sure it was worth the renewals. His body canโ€™t hack professional football.

We'll probably release him at the end of the season, then resign him two weeks later when we start panicking because we think we haven't got enough cover. A la Naughton.

Naughton should not be compared with any player who has a history of injuries Kyle has been the ultimate pro for this club and i for one am glad he is still here. His professionalism has been there for all to see, now approaching the twilight of his career but he has served us well.

I like Liam Walsh and there is undoubtably a good skilful player there but we just havenโ€™t seen enough of it, he will have to go and we wont be re-signing him.

Such a shame, one of our best natural talents (and dressing room characters) with the rare ability to unlock the tightest of defences. It's also a big shame we didn't get to see more of the potent chemistry with his relationship with Pato - with Pato playing out wide left and Walshy linking and feeding his deft moves. It's not over yet though, he's a proper fighter and tough cookie.

Would make an excellent pundit, a proper student of the game and highly eloquent.

At least he'll now get to properly utilise his season ticket at Anfield.

The Naughton comparison is a silly one.

Iโ€™m sure the gamble of renewal must have been known, it certainly was to some of the fans who knew his injury record.

I still cannot fathom why we took that gamble.

LW was very cagey about Walsh's injury, especially when he said it wasn't a muscle injury but had pain

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Can the Swans secure an agreement for second loan with Brighton?

Swansea City 0-1 Millwall – limp Swans end with a whimper

Swansea limped over the line at the end of the season as a dogged Millwall side came away with a 1-0 win on a sunny afternoon in South Wales. The Swans never really got up to speed in a below par performance that generally summed up their season; big chance…
