Flynn Signs For Two Years

It only took 24 hours after Saturday’s game for the discussions to begin between the fans as to whether Flynn should stay and the board have moved quickly to extend his services. It is clearly something that the majority of fans agree with as over 80% of the votes on the current site poll have indicated support for Flynn.
Many names were banded about as people who could be brought into replace him with the names of Frank Burrows and John Cornforth amongst them as usual but it appears that the board are happy that Flynn has kept them in the league and feel, as do many, that he deserves a shot at a full season with us.
Personally, I would not have done this. Those that read this site on a regular basis will have seen my views and where I think his shortcomings are but at the moment I am working to a simple theory. It has been the longest two seasons I have ever known as far as trials, tribulations and stress go. We have three months to recharge the batteries and the board have pinned their faith on the man that kept us up. On that basis, as a site we will support that decision and not debate the finer points of Flynn’s talents in articles at the moment. We will judge on what he produces for us on the pitch. I am sure that a similar statement will come from Brian with words to that effect (remember "Judge me by Christmas") and to me that is the most important thing – if it’s right on the pitch then we have the right manager?
Moving Curt to the Youth side of things is something that many have said for many a time. We had three people running the team at the end of last season and it seemed wrong. We now have two, Flynn and Reeves and Curt can do what those in the know say he does best. We will see the results of this move in a few years.
The board of directors wanted stability and after three managers in their sixteen months in charge, we have that. We have a manager who has the summer to work with what he has been given and the chance to mould his own squad in full. We have seen players of the calibre of Martinez and Britton brough here – let’s hope he has a few more of those lined up.
I hear whispers that the first couple of targets will be at the club within the week and I also hear whispers that the budget for new players is around ร‚ยฃ650,000 – a figure not huge but one that we could have expected given the accounts published a few weeks back.
Maybe for a change this summer we can sit back and watch some players coming into the club and feel that, for once, we are heading in the right direction. After the last two seasons, you almost hope for a nice mid table finish with no stresses but this is Swansea City – life is never that simple.
However, with the teams from 4th-9th being involved in play-off action next season you would have to say that the play-offs are not unobtainable and maybe for the gambling types a little flutter each way on promotion is worth a punt?
But then again, save your cash for the next trauma at the club (only kidding!)
