You know the new season is drawing closer when the club announces the season ticket prices for the coming campaign and today, Swansea City did just that. The first thing I noticed when the club’s press release landed on my doormat this morning was the opening paragraph thanking us, the fans, for our support last season. “The support this season has been phenomenal and the envy of many. Everybody associated with the club is truly thankful to the fans for the part they played in ensuring the continuation of Nationwide League Football in Swansea, and we all look forward to a much better season in 2003/04. The rebuilding of the club to make us stronger for the new campaign is underway, and you the supporter has a major part to play” That “major part to play” refers, of course, to the £1 increase in admission prices in all areas of the ground. The first increase in admission prices in four seasons. On the subject of the price rise, the club had this to say…………. “Although we would have liked to hold prices at 2002/03 levels, a rise was unavoidable, although we hasten to add that it is the first increase in four seasons, and as our many travelling supporters will confirm, admission to the Vetch Field still remains one of the cheapest in the Third Division” Any fan who paid £12 to stand on the freezing cold open terrace at Leyton Orient at the end of last season will certainly agree with that last sentence! Price rises are an inevitability, but are not always welcome. But the fact that it’s the first price rise for four seasons and that the extra revenue raised will go straight into Flynn’s wage budget, makes the pill a little bit easier to swallow. As well as the lower prices for season tickets purchased before June 30th, the club has also added the extra incentive of a “Gold Membership Card” for fans who decide to buy their tickets early. This card will allow supporters the following benefits………………… Discounts at many local business/outlets 20% off SCFC replica shirt price Chance to win Worthington Cup Final tickets Regular draws to win player’s shirts “Bring a guest for free” scheme After reading the season ticket brochure for details, the chance to win player’s shirts offer really stood out. As a gold membership season ticket holder, you will be enetered into a draw at every home game and if you are the lucky winner, you will be presented with the shirt actually worn by your chosen player during the game! The club have also decide to continue the “12 match ticket book” and have extended this to cover the East Terrace. As an added bonus, the club has also teamed up with the Western Mail to offer a massive 58% discount off the price of a child’s “12 match ticket book” The ticket can be purchased for just £25 when vouchers are collected from the Western Mail starting on June 30th. Quite why the Evening Post didn’t sponsor this offer, is a mystery!!! Concessionary season tikets for the Centre Stand will also continue from last season and of course, season ticket holders will have priority for all-ticket matches. As a final thankyou to the fans, the club will automatically enrol every season ticket purchaser in the Supporters’ Trust by donating the membership fee directly to the Trust from the season ticket price! Although the club have been forced to increase the prices, it’s nice to see a few new incentives to “soften the blow” Let’s hope that the extra revenue raised can be used to create a squad of players that we’ll all enjoy watching this season.
