You Fibre

Knocked my door the other day, 29 quid 900 download and upload, anyone got them yet? From what the rep was telling me, the Swansea area was all going to get it. Personally I didn’t bite, because he said you fibre would pay all of my provider’s contract off, which I know are just lies. Soon as he left I googled it, on my current contract I still owe nearly a grand, they are not paying that. Looking lightly into it, comes back as the max they cover is 300, but some people are saying they give you zero?

They shouldn't be long, I assume. from what I have seen!

Doesn't take them long, they just put their cables through existing BT ducts. I guess just be wary of the promise to buy out the contract you are currently on.

They'll use the existing open reach network, will probably need to drill through the house and fit their own ONT.

In theory they shouldn't use any existing BT equipment that was previously installed outside and on the inside of the home.

Word of caution with theses type of companies, their cheap for a reason and don't often last that long.

They are not that cheap though, only a couple of quid less than existing providers like virgin or sky. The thing that I’m intrigued with though is the symmetrical upload and download speeds.

But would it make a great difference? Looking at google they recommend having at least 50 download speed to watch a 4k movie.

If you look at the you fibre page, they are advertising 7000 MBPS upload and download speeds. No doubt in a few years that may be the norm, although at the moment I can’t really see what higher speeds achieve for the average user? As long as it’s a stable connection, that will do me.

I suppose at the moment, you fibre would definitely appeal to anybody on an internet only package with the likes of say talk talk, and also disgruntled users of virgin or sky.

Edit: Just checked the price compared to virgin standalone broadband package and you fibre are 6 quid cheaper, which I suppose over the course of an 18 month contract is over a 100 quid cheaper

Whenever someone knocks on my door and see they are wearing a YouFibre fleece, I say the words "I am happy with my current provider, thank you". My door has shut before I get to the word "Thank". I cannot stand cold calling(or knocking) Im also very wary of anyone selling "too good to be true" energy packages. They have been known to migrate people from their current suppliers without authority. They usually target older folks.

Yeah, cold callers are wasting their time knocking on my door. I've stopped short of getting a door sticker but only cos Mrs Bear objects to its lack of aesthetic appeal (I.e. I'm not allowed).

Having a landline is a bleedin waste of time too nowadays. I marvel at how many folks must engage with these Indian call centres for them to remain viable.

I'm the same when it comes to the broad band in our house. As long as the connection is stable and people aren't moaning the wifi is shit, I'm happy.

Downgraded from 1Gb to 150 Mpbs and honestly couldn't tell you the difference in upload and download speeds. I honestly think it's a status thing that people like to brag about in the pub.

The network is all the same from Wholesale to OpenReach, the only difference is from the cabinet to the house and the customer service you receive from each provider.

All good and well when it's working, when it's not you can tell the difference between Sky, BT and providers like You Fibre,

There is almost zero chance that they will roll out across all of swansea, but they may cover densely populated areas with PIA availability.

The cost to connect a house with fttp is around £350, the payback takes around 5 years which basically means all of these small broadband companies are losing money. Most of these altnets won't be around in five years time and will have been taken over by bigger companies.
