He certainly, joined the English fans together last summer. Neatly all of them joined together to call for his head every week, until about the semi's.
 
Rewarding mediocrity and one of the most glaring examples I can think of that completely devalues a knighthood.

Totally agree with that.

Footballers seem to get knighted for very little compared to everyone else. Southgate gets one for taking England to 2 major finals and a semi final, while Bobby Robson got one for taking England to just the one semi final.

Bobby Robson had a pretty decent career a club level compared to Southgate, at least he won things.

Agreed, although Robson managed clubs for many years while Southgate has had just 3 seasons at Boro (which ended in relegation).

Robson won a decent number of club trophies earlier in his career, but we all know the reason he was given a knighthood was for Italy '90. Also possibly for being a decent human being, which to be fair Southgate also seems to be.

Bobby Robson's achievements in and outside the world of football far out way those of Southgates thus deserving his knighthood.

Southgate's achievements compared to Kevin Sinfields don't compare.
 
Sir Gareth helped revolutionise the use of lanyards in professional sport.

I had a look and it says that Robson's knighthood was for services to football, no relation to any of his charity work or other achievements away from football.

I'm in total agreement that Sinfield is far more deserving than Southgate, no argument there at all. I'm just addressing this weird hate for Southgate that so many have. No one seemed bothered about Robson's knighthood, yet Southgate was a far more successful England manager than him, with their England management stints clearly being the main reason they were awarded honours.

Bobby Robson was knighted in 2002 for his services to football, he resigned as manager of England in 1990.

Southgate wasn't a successful England manager, he didn't win anything despite having countless opportunities to do so with some of the most gifted footballers England has produced.

If you can't see the difference between him and Southgate then that's on you.
