Relegation Update

Trouble with this league is results are so unpredictable even more so in last quarter of the season.

Oxford no win in 9 and a tough run in could be caught by one of the bottom 3

I think the bottom 4 and Oxford will be in the relegation fight until the final fixtures

Games left, even if we only scrape on 4 or 5 points it would need a massive turn around in other teams fortunes especially as many play each other

Plymouth Luton Derby

Watford A Hull A Preston H
Norwich H Leeds H Swansea A
Swansea A Stoke A Burnley H

We have Derby, Plymouth and Hull at home, stay unbeaten in them and we can crawl over the line.. because we don't score much under Sheehan so far
5 goals scored in 4 games under Sheehan, 2 in Williams' last 4 games in charge, not to mention the improvement in goals conceded.

We've scored at 1.25 goals per game so far under Sheehan (small sample size admittedly), while we scored at a rate of 0.97 under Williams (34 in 33 games).

Defensively we've conceded 1 in 4 (0.25) compared to 46 in 33 (1.39). Huge improvement here and a small improvement in goals scored. Carry on as we have and we'll do far better than crawling over the line, we should be comfortable.

Got a sneaky feeling we gonna have to let Oxford win last game to send the vermin down.
Thoughts anyone?
If we're safe by then (which we should be), play the kids in that one, plus that old Scottish bloke in goal.

Play some fringe first teamers like Fulton, but certainly the likes of Vig, Cabango, Key, Franco, O'Brien, Cullen, Vip will all be in need of a rest. Also it's a perfect chance to see what we've got in some of the young players on the fringes ready for next season...

We can't play a weakened team if we are playing teams still in a situation where they came mathematicaly get relegated/promoted.

Any team would need to be careful in this situation but certainly players can have a bad day or even be on the beach.

Genuine question, if we had to lose to send the scum down, do you reckon the players/manager would?

Deffo play a weakened team, but Oxford needn't worry, our record playing season end games when nothing on it for us is pretty crap.
But it be hilarious watching us all cheering Oxford on. Never mind this stay classy bollox.
We can't play a weakened side due to competition rules. The club would get instantly fined.

I think any team we pick would go out there and do their absolute best to win the game, especially young players looking to be part of the first-team squad next season.

Has anyone got a link to the rules that say we can't play a weakened team? Teams are always resting first-teamers towards the end of the season when there's nothing to play for, especially if they have a cup final coming up.

Also, if we list 6 first-teamers as injured and unable to play, how could we possibly be punished for that?

Edit: We also gifted Cardiff 4 points this season, so only fair we gift Oxford 3 points...

There's not a chance a group of professional sports people would go out to lose a game in order for a team 40 odd miles up the road to possibly get relegated.

It's embarrassing we are even discussing it.
I think it would if we were safe smurphy
