My wife is tonight at a fundraising event for MIND in memory of our nephew who took his own life at the age of 15. He’d have been 21 now. I have very little time for anyone who is trite enough to trot out the “mental health is the new bad back” cliche. It’s unbelievably offensive.
That’s horrible to read about your nephew, as it is about all those that take their own lives. But it always hits harder seeing that age. ❤️

That’s heart breaking.
My son lost 2 school friends to suicide, it happened when they were 16 and again 3 years later. It is something my son will carry for ever, the 2 sets of parents have never recovered.
MIND, the Jac’s Lewis Foundation all do some sterling work.

There are thousands since the pandemic swinging the lead. “Anxiety” etc the new back ache.

It’s not good for the vast majority of those young people who could work not to be working they are dooming themselves to misery.

Anyone who is actually disabled deserves all the help they can. Honestly look at the figures since Covid it’s wild and that is one of the reasons we’re in doldrums.

It’s evil to throw people on scrap heap not nice.
Wow, very poor. You have just plagiarised the reform manifesto.

And that’s why I will never vote for them.

And this ladies and gentlemen, is a massive reason why so many men are taking their own lives. Because of ignorant comments from clowns like this.

Please, if anyone is struggling out there, ignore comments such as those, things will get better for you.

It’s always darkest just before dawn breaks.
What a typical response from you.

I’m talking about people who taking advantage not those who have genuine mental health issues.

There are a lot of younger people who could and should work. That’s just reality. My point is that if you sign them off you are actually damaging their mental health.

But crack on mate. It’s what you do.

And to add. There should be lots more money ploughed into mental health.

Please don’t paint me as someone who doesn’t believe in it. I’ve known about it all to well

Might want to think twice before belittling it then. Can’t have it all ways.

I’m not belittling. I’m pointing how there’s a lot of people who are abusing the system and that is wrong. Very wrong all round.

I’m also a massive advocate of the importance of work in helping people. I go back to my central point there’s nothing nice about writing people off.

Get fucked you pompous little man.

You have zero idea of who is or isn’t suffering with their mental wellbeing and to what degree they’re struggling.

Stick to uni politics you twat.

There are far better, more constructive ways of making the point that some people are playing the benefits system than “mental health is the new bad back”. It’s the very definition of belittling. Be better.

Also while I’m at it, chronic back pain is no fun either. Try living with it.

The thing is I can guarantee you that there will be people reading this board and will take comments like that on board, which will make them bottle up their issues even more, which only leads one way.

I’ve got zero time for people who throw around comments like that, it is literally life or death for way too many people.

Some of us are knocking our bollocks off to try and shake off the stigma of not being able to talk about our mental wellbeing. And then you still have people broadcasting that nonsense. Wes Streeting is another one that needs to watch what and how he says things as well.

Speaking of Streeting, I'm surprised he found the smallest hint of backbone still in his body to advise the Israelis' to 'get their own house in order' this morning. It would have been better if he'd pointed out that moaning about some singers 'glorifying violence' at Glastonbury pales into insignificance against Israelis' murdering farmers in the West Bank and IDF soldiers shooting aid workers, but it was at least a tiny gesture in that direction. Pretty damning that it's the best our government can apparently do though.

I said anxiety not mental health.

And that’s not to say anxiety isn’t an issue. But surely if you look at this in the round a massive spike since Covid just doesn’t seem quite right.

I’ll leave it be though if people are offended. That was never my intention. I just think there’s a massive danger of moving from one extreme to other on this issue. There are many young people who do need to be encouraged to get into work and be productive. That’s good for them and good for society.

It's incredible the amount of times you hear that, makes my blood boil.
