The 'Vitor Matos' Managerial Thread?

Swans aren’t keen to pay the €1 million release clause… which is astronomical for a manager that has only managed 12 games.

I wouldn’t be paying that if I was the club.
Yeah mental to even request that, surely Matos could force Maritimos hand on this? Otherwise who’s our 3rd choice big Russ?

I haven't followed everything on the thread or more generally on Matos.I think I did read that he worked through his coaching badges on the FAW Coaching courses.
It is possible that the FAW and other contactas, even within the club itself have more insight into the man and his abilities and philosophy than the rest of us looking in from the outside.
Whatever happens he will have my support and good wishes for successful progress here at the Swans.

I’m sure someone said he was actually on the course with Sheehan.

This. It’s the reality of the situation.

Although, I do think Matos must’ve been fairly high on the list if candidates given the speed that we’ve moved on from Hellberg.

I’d also argue that Boro don’t have that much of a better playing squad than us. Apart from Hackney and maybe Azaz, they don’t have wildly better players. I saw an estimated team for them under Hellberg and thought it wasn’t anything that special for this league.

The money and league position is what will have done us over.
They were extremely average against us. Didn’t impress me one bit to be honest.

It's sad old story with us, but how the hell does the Club have slim pickings on managers? There must be thousands out there. Granted not all at the level we want, but still.. If the club is so obsessed with data then go and find someone. Otherwise put hand in pocket and get Rodgers, etc.

Im buzzing that it looks like it isn't happening to be completely honest, but the fact this is 3rd time in a row were gonna be looking for a manager for over a month is frankly embarrassing.

To take so long and to get it so wrong every time is an achievement in itself

The Agent of Matos has clearly been busy as his name was everywhere when we thought Hellberg was still ours. We defaulted to him after that broke down and presumably had been told by said agent that it would be very cheap compared to other options, that we rated on a similar level. I do not know how it works in Portugal but in Spain they all have clauses that are huge and well above what you would expect based on their wages, which give teams a good negotiating position. I can not imagine they would reject 500k if we offered it but I doubt the plan was for him to be a costly hire and this will change the dynamic entirely. Especially if Gorringe and Worth are having to justify this upwards. Not good news for the short term and the next week or games but if this collapses it could be a lucky escape for us.

There will be a lot of candidates, it may feel like slim pickings but Hellberg probably would have been a decent shout going by the media reaction to his Boro move, and I think the club genuinely thought Matos was a good option. I don’t think this is bottom of the barrel for us.

Think it's happening just delay to to what has been reported with possible fee. I can't see this falling through.

Agreed I said this on another thread. This appointment has to be based on the recommendation from an agent or someone inside of football.

He wasnt on our shortlist last time and it can't be data based because he's only managed 12 games in a very poor league.
the last thing a club should do is listen to what agents say, a recipe for disaster and was Jenkins's downfall. We are lacking an out and out football man on the current staff who has no agenda apart from making decisions for Swansea City.

Do you have a link to our previous short list? Can't say I've seen that

I’ve been an utter sucker the last few years and got my hopes up for nearly every new signing and appointment.
The only things IMO, that have exceeded expectations and put a smile on my face are Galbraith and big Vip showing everyone that he’s a proper player.
Not this time, never heard of Hellberg or this Portuguese guy.
Still can’t believe Sheehan couldn’t fix the issue with the players at his disposal. Madness

At the risk of getting shot down in flames- i believe Will Still has something about him. Enough to land a bigger job than ours
Failing at a basket case club should not necessarily be a deal breaker 🤔👍

Maritimo confirmed themselves that he has a 1m euro release clause.

At that price move on, try to bend Brendan Rodger's or Michael Carrick's ear who are both out of work and would be owed no compo. Could put that towards a salary and/or any promises made for backing in January.
