Budget November 2025

I don't really know how ISA's really work, I didn't think that you could have multiple isa's worth 20k anyway only the interest on 20k is tax free for a year, I don't know if you can just keep that 20k going year on year on and earn tax free interest.
There’s no limit on the total amount you can hold in ISAs. It’s just a limit of adding £20k per year to the total. All interest on all iSAs is tax free. Not just on one every year.

You could have half a million quid in ISAs and the interest will be tax free.

Added:

One of the biggest bug bears of mine is that people aren’t taught about this stuff.

It may surprise you to know that the current average total wealth of UK pensioners (65 plus) is £730k.

The median wealth (which is a figure that’s doesn’t get distorted by those at the very top) is £467k.

And you don’t think they should pay any tax?
That’s for the estate of an individual?

Anyone with a ‘few bob’ won’t be paying tax on their interest income. Which is what we’re talking about.
Get off your high horse and hang on a minute now is it a few bob is exactly that it isn't mega wealth a few grand maybe, I wasn't or intending to include those with 100 or 100's of thousands or millions

Average figures are meaningless, unless backed up by all the figures.
And I've yet to met a pensioner in these parts, with anything approaching those figures.
I nip out of this one, it's starting to irritate me.

You don’t need to remove anything. You have £20k per annum, not at a time.

You can have loads of ISA accounts.

And it’s not being reduced for pensioners.
Exactly! You just let it sit for years. Hardly rocket science. 100k tax saving in 5 years that’s okay.

That’s for the estate of an individual?
Yep.

It’s because of the property wealth.

The over 65 generation have more wealth than any generation is history. And far more than the generations after them. Albeit, a lot of that wealth will be passed down over the coming years.

Yes you have. You just ignore the houses that they own outright without any mortgage.

It was said on a news channel about people not understanding ISA's Stocks and Shares Bonds etc, there's a thought about teaching school children about it all, good Idea in my view perhaps it'll teach them the value of money, I've always been the type that if I had a pound in my pocket I'd spend two, bit better these days I suppose, but old habits die hard. on isa's bonds, shares etc there's loads of things advertised on places such as FB, but would you trust them? I wouldn't even if I had any money to do so.

Mumbles, Gower, Derwen Fawr.
There are loads of pensioners who have paid off their mortgages and are living in properties worth well over half a million in these areas to start with.

It’s a startling figure and much higher than I had considered.

Great news, I'm offski👋

Well' they'll hand those houses down to their children and grandchildren and why shouldn't they, they worked hard and long enough to pay for their houses and usually at least over three times the houses value, in most cases with 40yrs mortgages, wife and I are in our 60's and we only paid ours off this year.

I completely agree with you.

In fact, when I am fully retired I thought about writing some stuff about it for schools.

I tell you who does get taught about this sort of stuff - kids who go to schools that aren’t Swansea comps!

I absolutely would not trust adverts on Facebook etc. If you want to know about how you can use things like ISAs, you can go to your bank, or building society, or speak with a qualified financial advisor.

I should say btw, if it wasn’t clear, those ISA amounts are over person. So a couple have £20k each per year - £40k in total.

Swansea City v Oxford United
