Take delivery of my EV soon (delivery ahead of schedule)

I've been looking at charge points, has anyone used these

Seems attractive with no up front cost

Why not get one from your energy provider?

Haven’t gone for an EV yet, but it’ll be a company car if I do, and they pay for the charger and install.

Mine is a Huawei, it was the one the solar panel installers recommended so I let them get on with it. Only been using it for two months, it's fine so far.

What I wanted to point out to you is a service I was recommended for charging your car when away from home, run by Octopus, called Electroverse.

I realised that, having driven diesel and petrol all my life, I knew nothing about charging EVs at public charging points. You don't need to be an Octopus customer, the scheme is for all EV drivers. There's an app which shows a Europe and UK wide interactive map of thousands of public charging points, including twenty or thirty around Swansea for example. You can sign up to get their payment card and that works for all the chargers shown on the map. You nominate one of your bank cards and that is where the charge will show up.

The map shows for each charging facility how many chargers, how many currently free, charge capacity and price per Kwh, great for planning a long journey. Just scouting around the map, it comes as no surprise to find that the most expensive ones are on motorways (what else is new?) while the cheapest ones are at places that want to entice you in to their shop, like big supermarkets and MaccieDs, believe it or not. You should Google it and have a read.

What EV have you gone for?

I have just come very close to pulling the trigger on an EV, but backed out. One car too soon for me.

For those thinking of making the switch, I would highly recommend taking the plunge. We've had ours for just over 12 months and I'd never drive a petrol or diesel car again through choice.

Hyundai Kona Ultimate, company car with very favourable BIK plus only 10.65 personal use contribution. Plus my 7 year old daughter was fully sold on the massive sunroof 😂

I think you have to lease for electric just now, things are changing so fast, and nobody really knows yet about longer term implications, second hand values, battery degradation, battery disposal, fire risk of older cars and the cost/benefit equation if take up increases, as govt and dealers have to maintain income. I see them very much as a town car, with a small efficient battery, rather than the monstrous SUVs or 'performance' cars with huge batteries that seem to have been the focus of many manufacturers up to now.

I'm sticking with petrol until our cars rot though. It's the greenest and most efficient and cost effective thing to do.

Edit, or get a company car like Wayne and Neathy! Privileged bastards 😆
