EV charging

We've got an EV charger thing bolted on to the side of the house, but not got an EV so haven't used it yet (moved in last year). We're tempted to take the plunge for the next car, but not sure yet. Not in place of my car, mind, no amount of EV savings are going to tear me away from my twin-turbo V6! :ROFLMAO:

Those were the days. German Turks car of choice. Then came electronics.

As a bit of petrolhead, the current crop of new cars just seem so soulless. The new Audis for example are taking a pasting, plenty of use of cheap materials, ugly screens with no thought about design, haptic touch controls, climate control on the entertainment screen, ergh. That's before going into the lacklustre design of the exterior. Audi aren't the only ones guilty of this mind, I'm just an owner of an Audi that's a couple of years old (previous gen) and the amount of downgrading to cut cost is incredible.

German carmakers are in a real financial pickle. Not what they were. All carmakers, even likes of Lexus are cheapening out and have been for some time. I’d still trust a Japanese car over a German one 9 times out of 10.

That said, I did still choose BMW 🙄 (because I love the dealer that I’ve used for 12 years, and my independent specialist for after sales), but I chose the specific model because the engine (B58) was built in partnership with Toyota to go in their Supra. Plus it has a (relatively) small screen and all controls are physical bar sat nav, even though you can talk to it, should you be of such persuasion.

My mate has recently bought a BM its a stunner fair play 72 or 74 plate, painted in that soft shinny grey paint, only seen photos so far, not sure of the model, but knowing him its a sporty job.
Monny its a 330e M Sport 300bhp dear me :ROFLMAO:

My dad bought one of those, aged 91, the nutter. White with red seats 😆😆🙄. Spending the kids’ inheritance, like I’d been on at him to do. Was thinking more of a world cruise than a boy racer beemer, but hats off. He drove it through red lights camera a week later in Bridgend…’were they red?’ 😬😬

Until you have to replace one or both turbos.

Lovely looking car, he works hard enough so he deserves it.

BMW seem to have suffered less in terms of the enshittification of German cars. The designs generally still hold up and they aren’t starting to look like Mondeos or Kias. The interiors seem to also hold up.

I’d probably be tempted to move to them after the Audi, but that’ll be a little while yet.

I think Merc interiors are more ‘special’. BMW are very similar in all their models now…functional. Of the German makes I would definitely go BMW though. I had Mercs for 20 years before switching. Lovely cars to drive, but the total couldn’t give a shit ‘aftercare’ and the number of faults pushed me away from them.

Is this you Monny?

Absolutely this. You go in one BM and you’ve been in them all. That is why I’ve only ever had one of them, although I did test drive the 4 series coupe when I was buying my current car. Plus I almost pulled the trigger on an i4 last year so I won’t say never.

I did 95k miles in three years in an E320 company car from 2003 and in that time the springs rusted through and collapsed (twice - my fault for driving over the Severn too much, apparently), cat failed, the DPF needed replacing, two electrical sensors failed which made the car say ‘undrivable’ even though it was only a sensor fault, and some twat smashed into the back of me at Cardiff Services turn off (not the car’s fault, fair enough 🤣, but I blame it). Merc ‘recovery’ left me stranded there half a day while arguing with the lease company about where it should be taken for repair. If that had all been my money out of warranty I’d have been a bit miffed.

They asked when I left if I wanted to buy it…
