    Dr Poo

One thing I’ve learned about Doctor Who fans is that nobody seems to hate watching Doctor Who more than them. They’re a bit like football fans in that respect. The thing they love seems specifically designed to annoy them.

    Alan Sheehan-Manager for Next Season

He refused to sign the first one that simply said “I agree to be manager of the Swans. Sheezy”. He's very demanding.

Completely agree. Seen many of both types over the years. Trick is knowing when to reign it in, say your piece, argue your corner then recognise the point where the decision has been made and you just suck it up and get on with it, agree or disagree.

I do that too. Our last CEO loved and hated me in equal measure. :ROFLMAO:

It’s a ball ache at times but you gotta persevere. The civil service has been good to me. It found me a niche that I didn’t know I had and I got a rewarding career out of it.

It’s not but there you go. Even wrong opinions are earnestly held.

I’ve got less experience with those cos I usually interview for specific roles. The principles are much the same though cos I assume those 15 roles all require similar skills and are in the same what we used to call “job family”. Yes, the civil service has some wanky terminology.

I see Skippy’s having a totally normal one again.

A lot depends as well on what the job is and how many there are. If you’re interviewing for one role in a specific skill set you’ll think differently from if you’re doing what we used to call a general “promotion board” where you’re recruiting for a grade rather than a specific role. The latter...

Officially no. But there should always be an “independent” person on any panel. It’s usually the hiring manager, someone else from the area the job is in and normally an HR rep to keep everyone honest, so to speak. But in the past I’ve argued for candidates who I know are capable who may have...

It would be sensible but the civil service doesn’t do that. Anything lower than a four and you’re out. It’s daft.

Also you’ll find that one interviewer will score an example as (for example) a three and you could use exactly the same example in a different interview and it would score a five. It can be intensely frustrating but I don’t think that sort of thing is exclusive to the civil service. It’s more...

That’s part of the problem. You could get five sevens and one three and you’re automatically out, it’s daft and encourages people to do just enough to get the fours.

That’s mostly not true and it can put people off applying. It’s an often repeated myth.

Yes, that’s always an option in my experience.
