For me, it was a combination of him still being young and inexperienced so he didn't look great in the limited minutes he got, combined with us having better players ahead of him.

Ayew scored 16 league goals that season and Lowe scored 14, so no way was either getting dropped for Gyokeres.

Gyokeres had only played in lower league Swedish football and 1 season on loan in the German 2nd Division at that point. The second half of that season after he was recalled, he only scored 3 goals in 19 games on loan at Coventry. Well done to them for spotting his potential and signing him permanently, but there would have been uproar amongst Swansea fans if we paid a fee for him after what we saw of him.
 
The manager was the problem, not the player. Not unusual over the past few years.
